Therapy & the Multicultural Perspective

with Dania Uritskiy, LICSW

2 FREE CEUs

Friday, November 10th : 9:00 am-11:00 am

Virtual via Zoom

Training Overview

Many communities of color/minority communities have felt disconnected from therapy because they feel they are not understood at the most fundamental level of their identity. This 2 hour training focuses on utilizing culture of origin to help navigate a client’s story from a holistic perspective in therapy.  As therapists, we frequently work with people who are different from our own identity, and as we build cultural competency we can help bridge the gap and create healing connections with each of our clients. We can also start the repair process from hard done via oppressive systems.

Topics Discussed:

Why talking about culture is important

Exploring your own personal cultural identities

Culture of origin - A deeper understanding of our story

How can we facilitate an exploration through multiculturalism

Weaving therapeutic work into the story of culture

How multicultural lenses can open new perspectives

Outcomes for the clinician who is utilizing multicultural perspectives

Continuing the work

Dania Uritskiy, LICSW, Therapist

Dania is a Licensed Independent Clinical Social Worker (LICSW) and therapist at Self Space. She obtained my BSW from the Catholic University of America in Washington D.C. and my MSW from the University of Maryland Baltimore in Baltimore, MD. Above all else, she is innately curious about others, loves to connect with others’ experiences and begin the partnership with them to help them feel like the best version of themselves. She works with people dealing with anxiety, depression, and trauma, people working to overcome social anxiety, and people exploring multi-cultural identities. She is also particularly interested in working with people who have newly immigrated or grew up in a bi-cultural household, and can help people work through the chaos that can arise from navigating between your family’s values, American values, and your own values.  She provides therapy in both English and Spanish to create a deeper level of understanding and connection.
